POLYMER ENERGY SYSTEM Turning Plastic Wastages into Fuel
Plastic & Its Adverse Effects
Plastics are typically polymers of high molecular mass, composed of polymers of carbon and hydrogen alone or with oxygen, nitrogen, chlorine or sulfur in the backbone.
According to a nation wide survey conducted in the year 2003, more than 10,000 Tons of plastic waste is generated daily in India, and only 40% of the same is recycled, balance 60% is not possible to dispose off.
Incineration, Blast furnace, Gasification are not much appreciated solution, as toxic gases are released and their cost of production is quite high
Polymer Energy System: Introduction
The polymer Energy system is process of thermal degradation in the absence of oxygen to efficiently convert plastics to crude oil.
Various methods come under the system, Here I am discussing about Catalytic Pyrolysis Process.
This process involves catalytic degradation of waste plastic into fuel range hydrocarbon i.e. petrol, diesel and kerosene etc. A catalytic cracking process in which waste plastic are melted and cracked in the absence of oxygen and at very high temperature, the resulting gases are cooled by condensation and resulting crude oil is recovered. From this crude oil various products petrol, diesel and kerosene etc are obtained
Polymer Energy System can be processed at considerably low temperature and forms hydrocarbons in the range of motor range fuel.
Principles Involved
When the long chain of polymers break at certain points, or when lower molecular weight fractions are formed, this is termed as degradation of polymers. This is reverse of polymerization or de-polymerization.
In the process of conversion of waste plastics into fuels, random depolymerization is carried out in a specially designed reactor in the absence of oxygen and in the presence of coal and certain catalytic additives. The maximum reaction temperature is 350C. There is total conversion of waste plastics into value-added fuel products.
Process: Conversion of Plastic wastages into Fuel
First of all dry Plastic wastages which are firstly segregated are feed into Cylindrical Chamber (Hopper/Reactor) and it is treated continuously there .
Plastic wastages are pyrolysed with catalysts ( Y-Zeolite/ mixture of metal hydrogenation catalyst with HZSM-5) at 370C to 420C .
Resulting pyrolytic gas is condensed in a specially-designed condenser system.
Obtained crude oil is received in a tank, which contains sulphur about 0.002% only
The process includes the steps shown ahead

Unique Feature
plastics – can be used in the process without any cleaning operation. Inputs should be dry.
Bio-medical plastics waste can be used.
This is a unique process in which 100% waste is converted into 100% value-added products.
The process does not create any pollution.
Carbon Powder comes out as waste which also can be used further.
Environmentally responsible waste management solution
Cost-effective
Modular design, easily scalable plant capacity
Solution for nuisance and difficult to recycle plastic waste.
