Dams are man-made or artificial barriers usually constructed across a stream channel to impound water. Dams are typically provided with spillway systems to safely pass a broad range of flows over, around or through the dam. Various materials are used for dam construction such as timber, rock, concrete, earth, steel or a combination of these materials. However, in Connecticut, most dams are constructed of earth or combinations of earth and other materials. Spillways are commonly constructed of non-erosive materials such as concrete or rock. Dams are typically constructed with a drain or similar mechanism to control water levels in an impoundment for normal maintenance or emergency purposes. By definition, a disaster is any event that causes great harm or damage, serious or sudden misfortune. Dam failures clearly fit this definition. Because of the sudden and unexpected manner in which dam failures can occur, they are potentially as destructive as earthquakes, hurricanes and tornadoes. This project is used to build a prototype for the automatic DAM shutter. In this, the water level at different levels is sensed according to which the gate is closed or open. That is when the water is filled to level 3 the closed is fully closed, for level 2 gate is partially closed while for level 1 the gate is fully closed.
AUTOMATIC DAM SHUTTER CONTROLLING SYSTEM
SYNOPSIS
The lead sensor is used to control the water levels in the dam automatically. In this project, the motor is used to open/close the dam, when the sensor giving the control signals to the microcontroller.
INTRODUCTION
The main purpose of this project is to control the dam shutter automatically. The main purpose behind adding the level scanning section is to avoid malfunctioning of the receiver section due to power failure (as no battery is added to the receiver to latch the present level of the dam water). In case we add a battery and the power fails , the water level is latched but during this period if the water level goes bellow any probe , there is no way to transmit the signal from the transmitter . This levels us with no other option but to add level scanning section. When power resumes, the levelscanning section scans and chec!s all the levels one by one (from empty to full) and transmits the corresponding codes to the receiver to show the water level in the dam.

In our proposed system, a programmable logic controller is used as an industrial computer which plays the major role of a control device and micros witch providing incoming signals to the control unit. The system model is provided with two levels in one level in the upper level and one level in the lower outputs the ladder logic is activated. This work uses ALLEN BRADLEY MICROLOGIX 1400 PLC built-in with 20 digital inputs and offers 12 potential-free outputs to control the miniaturized process represented at work.
