Parle-G is a brand of cookies manufactured by Parle Products in India. According to a 2011 Nielsen survey, it is the best selling cookie brand in the world. Parle Products established itself as a confectionery manufacturer in the suburb of Vile Parle, Mumbai, in 1929. It began to manufacture biscuits in 1939. In 1947, when India became independent, the company launched an advertising campaign, exhibiting its Gluco brand of cookies as an Indian . alternative to British brand sponge cakes.
The Parle-G cookies were formerly called 'Parle Gluco' cookies until the 1980s. The "G" in the name of Parle-G originally meant "Glucose", although a slogan from the later brand also read "G means Genius" . In 2013, Parle-G became the first national consumer goods brand in India to cross the crore brand ₹ 5,000 in retail sales.
