PGP Encryption (Pretty Good Privacy) is a computer program that provides cryptographic privacy and authentication.

Phil Zimmermann created the first version of PGP encryption in 1991.
No license was required for non-commercial use.
PGP encryption found its way onto Usenet and from there onto the Internet, and it rapidly acquired a considerable following around the world.
