 In Pedal operated Generator, the mechanical power is converted into electrical power.
 Pedal power is used to charge simple electrical appliances.
Basic concept on which this pedal operated generator works:
 In this the mechanical energy which is put in for pedaling is converted into electrical energy, the energy is transferred from pedals to the alternator through chain.
 As the pedals move, the chain moves rotating the wheel and hence rotates the alternator, thus producing electricity.
 Greater the speed of pedaling, greater is the voltage produced.
Components used:
 Circuit board
 Rectifier
 Capacitor
 Amplifier
 Chain and sprocket
 Pedals
 Alternator
 Wheel
 Metal rods
 Sheet metal
Construction:
The chain and the sprocket have to be raised to a height using a stand.
Then a platform on the stand is made to mount the alternator.
This alternator is got in contact with the wheel.
The alternator’s output wires are connected to a circuit board.
This circuit board has a rectifier, capacitor and a voltage regulator(in order) soldered to it.
The output wires from the circuit board is connected to the appliance to be charged.
Working procedure:
 When the pedal is rotated, the wheel is also rotated.
 This in turn rotates the alternator connected to the wheel.
 This rotation of the alternator produces current.
 This current is an alternating current and has to be tuned to a proper DC or AC source.
Advantages
This current produced is totally from mechanical work.
There is no extra work involved.
Is an eco friendly process.
This can be used in large scale like in gyms etc producing a large amount of current.
