Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeships
The role of mechanical craftsperson can vary greatly, depending on the plant and location of your department. Daily activities range from planned and preventative maintenance to fault finding and problem solving when things go wrong, ensuring the plant and its manufacturing units perform to their maximum. Structured training will enable you to work on a large variety of mechanical equipment from large cranes, heavy machinery (e.g. gearboxes, pumps, bearings), to complex hydraulic equipment or machining components in our Engineering workshops. Fabricators and Welders Apprenticeships
Our Apprentice Fabricators and Welders enjoy plenty of opportunities to develop their skills in a hands-on, practical fashion – working to produce outcomes that meet agreed specifications and high quality standards. It’s an opportunity to take on responsibility for the full life cycle of a job: planning the work to be done, ordering materials, marking out, cutting and using of heavy machinery to aid the manufacture of the finished piece. You will be able to learn your trade using a range of tools and machinery, including drills, rollers, benders etc. and you’ll learn a range of techniques such as bolting, riveting and welding, using Sub arc, Manual arc and M.I.G.

Laboratory Apprenticeships

Material Science Higher Apprenticeships
Our Material Science Higher Apprentice programme is ideal for those who want to continue to learn, while gaining on the job, hands on experience in a post A Level (or equivalent) environment.

Our Material Science apprentices will work within our Technical function, which ensures that our products meet and exceed our customers’ exacting needs, both now and in the future. Requirements
To be eligible for our Apprentice Programme you must have achieved, or be expecting to achieve, 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English, Maths and Science.

Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering Programme Summary
For the first three and a half years apprentices are employed by TTE Training Ltd in Ellesmere Port. TTE is a leading training provider that offers training on behalf of a range of companies in the chemical, petrochemical, process, power, paper, pharmaceutical, nuclear and oil and gas industries throughout the North West. If you complete this initial stage of training successfully you will then be offered a one year fixed term contract with Tata Steel, with the aim of progressing into a permanent role after that. TTE provide a three and a half year multi skilled apprenticeship which is a work based training programme where you gain both practical experience at the TTE training centre and on site here at Tata Steel Colors in Shotton. During this time you will have the opportunity to study for nationally recognised qualifications.

During years 1 and 2 you will be based at TTE and will study for the following qualifications:

• Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Operations and Maintenance Engineering;

• Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Process Engineering Maintenance;

• Level 2 Functional skills;

• RoSPA H&S Basic Certificate;

In year 3 you will be based at Tata Steel in Shotton and you will have the option to study for Higher National Certificate where appropriate

You will be an important part of our The Process Systems department of Speciality Steels. The Process Systems team is an experienced team of software engineers that provide and maintain bespoke systems to support and enhance the operations of the business.

The department supports all aspects of the business; from delivering applications that allow our colleagues to develop stronger relationships with our customers, to building computer systems that coordinate the manufacturing and technical operations of steelmaking.

Short-listing Criteria

• Following the Application Deadline, candidates will be informed of the outcome of their application within 2 weeks.

Stage 2 – Online Aptitude Tests

Should you be successful following the short-listing of the application forms, you will be invited via email to complete a series of online general aptitude tests.

These tests will be used to assess you in the following areas: Verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning and spatial awareness tests based on the apprenticeship you have chosen.

Once we have reviewed all the test scores, should you meet our criteria you will be invited to the next stage of our selection process.

Should you be successful and invited to undertake the aptitude tests it is essential that you complete these tests within the given timescale.

Following completion of online tests, candidates will be informed of the outcome within two weeks.

Stage 3 – Interview

Should you be successful at the general aptitude test stage, you will be invited to attend an interview at one of our sites.

This interview will be a Competency Based and Function Specific Interview.
You will receive an email with the time and date of your interview.

Alternative arrangements will only be made in extenuating circumstances.
It is essential that you bring with you the following documents:

• Certificate as proof of exam results completed as claimed on your application form (if already achieved).
• Should you be awaiting your exam results, a certificate as proof will be required at that time.
• Proof of eligibility to work in the UK, in the form of a Valid Passport, or Birth Certificate and National Insurance Card

Following attendance at interview, candidates will be informed of our decision within two weeks.
