The VanetMobiSim extension focuses on vehicular mobility, and presents new realistic models of automotive movement at both macroscopic and microscopic levels. At the macroscopic level, VanetMobiSim can import maps from the US Census Bureau TIGER / Line? Database, or randomly generate them using Voronoi tesselation. In addition, it adds support for multi-lane highways, separate directional flows, differentiated speed restrictions and traffic signals at intersections. At the microscopic level, VanetMobiSim implements new mobility models, providing a realistic car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure interaction. According to these models, vehicles regulate their speed depending on the cars nearby, are exceeded and act according to traffic signals in the presence of intersections.
The mobility patterns of VanetMobiSim have been validated against TSIS-CORSIM, a well-known and validated traffic generator, which demonstrates the high level of realism achieved by VanetMobiSim.
