History
Oriental Insurance was incorporated on September 12, 1947 as a state non-life insurance company. It was established as a wholly owned subsidiary of Oriental Government Security Life Insurance Company Ltd. to execute its parent's general insurance operations. In 1956, when the insurance business was nationalized, the Eastern insurance became part of the LIC until 1973. After 1973, Oriental Insurance became a subsidiary of General Insurance Corporation of India until 2003, when the company was separated from the Parent company and established as Independent. In 2003, the Union Government acquired all the shares of Oriental Insurance Company Ltd of General Insurance Corporation of India.
