The degree of cure provided to a tire compound plays an important role in its performance. Attempts have been made to apply a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) technique to understand the state of curing (including curing) of tire tread compounds. When an uncured compound rubber is subjected to a DSC time-temperature program, an exotherm (AH, enthalpy) is observed based on the nature of the polymer, curing agents and other additives in the matrix. When the same compound is hardened in stages at different times at a fixed temperature and then subjected to a similar temperature scan in DSC, the H is reduced and tends to zero with the degree of curing. When the matrix is completely cured, ie no more crosslinking occurs, then instead of exotherm, an endothermic behavior is sometimes obtained, depending on the nature of the polymer and its tendency to reversion. Based on this observation, optimizations of curing cycles of two different tire tread compounds, One with 100% NR and the other with a mixture of NR and BR (50:50) and have been supplemented with data obtained The measurement of chemical crosslink densities and various physical properties.
