Online Passport Application

The request for an online passport involves booking an appointment in the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or passport center which is done by registering on the PSP website viz. Www.passportindia.gov.in, filling out and submitting the online passport application form and paying the passport fee online. Once you schedule, pay and reserve the passport appointment, you will need to print the ARN receipt and visit the PSK to process your application.

How to apply for a passport online?
Step 1: Login
• On the main page of the site you will find a section called 'APPLY'
• If you are an existing user, you can log in with your user ID and password (if it is still valid).
• If you are a user for the first time, you will need to register or create an account to generate a user ID and password to access the site. To sign up, follow these steps
• Click 'register now' under new user
• You will be directed to the user's registration page to complete the identification details. Some fields, marked with an asterisk, are mandatory and must be completed.
• In the first field, you will have to choose where you are registering, ie the cpv Delhi or the passport office. (CPP is for the application of diplomatic and official passports, but these passports can also be applied through the relevant psk)
• The passport office relevant to you based on the address of your current residence. (Tibetan refugees will have to choose the "delhi passport office" for the identity certificate.
• The following fields refer to your name (limited to 35 characters), date of birth, and email ID.
• You can choose to have your login ID the same as your email ID.
• If you can not choose a login ID
• Specify your password and confirm
• Provide a question and answer - if you forget your login details, you will be asked to answer this question.
• Finally enter the displayed code and press 'register' in the lower right corner of the page
Step two: Choose the type of application
• Login will give you access to the site, it will take you to the main page of the applicant. Here, you can choose to request a
• New passport / reprint of passport
• Diplomatic passport / official passport
• Police Certificate (PCC)
• Certificate of Identity
This page also contains a link to view the applications that were saved and sent. Once you submit your application form, you can return to this page to view it.
• Clicking on "Apply for new / new passport issue" on the "Applicant" page will take you to the next step in the process that is filling out the application form.
Step three: Fill out the application form
The application form can be filled in two ways namely. Offline or Online
Disconnected: Fill out the offline form and load it once completed.
• If you choose to fill out the offline form, click the link provided to download the form in a hard copy. (Note: Acrobat Reader version 9 or higher required)
• It will take you to the 'Download e-Form' page. Here, a link to an electronic form is provided for each of the following.
• Fresh / reissue
• Criminal record
• Diplomatic / Official
• Certificate of Identity
• Click on the appropriate link to open / download the electronic form.
• Fill out the electronic application form
• Click on the 'Upload e-form' link and upload / submit the completed application.
(This is a faster way to fill out the form and does not require an Internet connection).
Online: Fill out the online passport application without having to download / upload it.
• If you decide to fill out the online form, click on the link provided to fill out the online passport application form.
• You will be directed to the 'Type of passport' page where you will have to choose between the following
• Fresh or reissue
• Normal or tatkal
• 36 page or 60 page brochure
• Validity 10 years or up to 18 years of age o Not applicable - Select Not applicable if you are an applicant over 18 years of age; Choose 10 years or up to 18 years of age if the applicant is a child of 15 to 18 years of age
• Click the 'Next' icon in the lower right corner
• This will take you to the following pages which denote different sections of the application to be filled. These sections are to the left of the page in the left navigation bar. These sections are
• Passport type (current page), Applicant data, Family details, Current address, Current address 1, Current address 2, Emergency contact, References, Previous passport, Other details, Self-declaration
• Submit the completed form
(You will need to stay connected to the Internet while filling out the form Note - This will be a slow process if your Internet speed is less than 512kbps)
You are required to provide genuine and complete details on your application form.
Step four: Schedule, pay and reserve the appointment
• You will then have to schedule an appointment to visit the seva kendra (PSK) passport where you will have to report. You can locate the PSK for your area on the portal.
• Go to the 'Home Request' page and click 'View Saved / Sent Applications'
• This will display a page that contains details about the previously submitted application form. It shows in tabular form the RNA, the file number, the name of the applicant, the date of the appointment and the number of the submission
• Select the RNA of the form you just filled out.
• Below the table there are several options, namely.
• Recover partially filled form
• Payment and appointment schedule
• Print Application Receipt
• View / print the submitted form
• Monitoring the status of the application
• Track payment status
• Receipt of payment
• Upload support documents
• History of the Appointment
• Click on 'Pay and Schedule Appointment'
• This starts your payment process. It starts with 'Choose your mode of payment'. You can choose between two methods of payment, namely.
• Online payment - This is for payments through Internet Banking (SBI) or through card, ie debit or credit card (SBI or others).
• Challan Payment - This is for physical payment, ie paying in cash at a SBI branch or paying cash at a PSK when going as a walk-in
Note - It is mandatory to make online payments for booking appointments on all PSKs. If you pay for tatkal appointments, the passport fee to be paid to reserve the appointment is the same as for normal appointments. Once the appointment has been confirmed successfully, the balance of the tatkal passport fee will have to be paid in the PSK in cash.
• Once the payment is made, the next step is to book the passport appointment
• If you choose to pay online, you can book the appointment immediately.
• If you decide to pay with cash / challan -
• Take the provided challan to an SBI branch and pay the required amount in cash. This will be done after at least 3 hours of the challan generation.
• The challan is valid for only 85 days from the generation.
• Pick up a copy of the challan from the receiving bank staff
• The bank will then take 2 days to verify its RNA data on the given challan
• Successful payment will be displayed on the website after verification where the payment status can be 'tracked'. Alternatively, you will be sent an email update.
• On successful payment, either online or in cash, you can 'Schedule Appointment'
• This page contains dates available for PSK appointments under the corresponding Regional Passport Office (RPO).
• Also shows your application reference number (RNA)
• Select a PSK based on the available date
• Enter the displayed code and click the 'Next' icon in the lower right corner.
• For regular applications, select the Normal Appointment Quota; For the tatkal passport application, choose tatkal appointment fee
• Then you will have to "Pay and reserve the appointment".
• Details of your application will be listed on this page, including your application reference number (RNA), your name, what you are requesting, the amount to be paid and your contact number. It will also show the date of the appointment.
• Make sure all information is correct and click on the icon in the lower right corner for payment of appointment and reservation.
You can use the Quota Calculator tool to determine the rate you must pay in your application type. This can be found in the left navigation bar of the portal.
Note - There is no charge for applications for a diplomatic / official passport
• This leads to the payment gateway that is the SBI Multiple Choice Payment System (MOPS).
• Choose the method of payment, ie Net Banking (SBI and associates) or Payment Card (cash payments at branch SBI).
• If the payment system does not work, you can try again at some point.
• In case there is a down payment in the system for which you have been charged the passport fee without having your payment processed correctly online
• Go to the "Home Applicant" page
• Click on "Follow payment status"
Here you can check the status of your payment. If it has been processed correctly, you can proceed to obtain an appointment confirmation. However, if it has not been processed, it will indicate a failed payment. In this case, the amount charged will be returned to your account within 7 days, otherwise you will need to contact customer support.
Note - Once the payment has been made, there will be no refund
• When you successfully complete the payment, you will receive an "Appointment Confirmation" and an appointment number (once the payment is made, do not pay again)
• This page will show the details of the appointment namely. The application reference number (RNA), the name, the date of birth, what you requested, the quote quota, ie Normal or tatkal, the PSK chosen, your passport application. Appointment number appearing at the top of the page)
• Click "Print Application Receipt" in the lower right corner
Step five: Print RNA receipt
• The "Print Receipt Request" page gives details about your application
• Applicant data - RNA, type of application, name, place and date of birth, sex and marital status, type of employment, father's name, current address.
• Applicant References - First Reference Details, Second Reference Details (these are alphabetic codes)
• Passport payment details: total fee, payment paid, date and time of payment and payment transaction ID.
• Passport appointment details - Location of the PSK and its address, date and time of the passport appointment, appointment identification and as well as the reporting time
• Review these details and click "Print Admission Request" in the lower right corner
• The last step of this process is the display of the "Passport Request Receipt". This is proof of the completion of the online passport application process.
• The receipt contains the Applicant's details, applicant's references, payment details and appointment details as mentioned in the previous step.
• Also contains a tabular presentation of batches, sequence number and notification time. Applicants are called to PSK according to batches and quotes processed in sequence.
• There are two bar codes, one at the top and bottom right corners
• An important note at the bottom of the receipt tells you clearly
• Bring your documents to the PSK, ie a set of originals and a set of authenticated photocopies (parents can attest to the copies of their minors). You do not need to carry any photography as your photograph will be taken on the PSK. Only applicants under 4 years old will need to bring a recent photo - color with white background, 4.5 x 3.5 cm in size.
• Be sure to be present on the PSK before the reporting time when a token will be issued. The documents will be verified before the issue of chips. However, if it arrives after the report time mentioned, it will not be given a token.
• The applicant, to enter only the PSK for the appointment; Except in the case of minors, retirees, disabled persons and illiterates who may be accompanied by a family member.
• Avoid carrying electronic items including cameras and harmful objects or substances that are not allowed inside the PSK.
• Please note the details of the payment since the payment made will not be refunded.
• You can complete the process by printing the application receipt by clicking the icon at the bottom of the page.
• Once the receipt of the application has been printed, click on the 'Close' icon at the bottom of the page.
Note - You must bring the RNA receipt / receipt when you go to the PSK for the appointment.
• NOTE - If you can not attend the appointment, you must reschedule or cancel your PSK passport appointment as soon as possible.
• There will be no refund of fees if the appointment is rescheduled or canceled. The amount paid for the canceled / original appointment can not be transferred to process a new appointment. It will be a new payment.
• However, if multiple payments are made for the same appointment / request / ARN, the excess will be refunded by the RPO
• You can reschedule your passport appointment twice in a year, ie from the date of the original appointment.
• You can not reschedule a missing or missing passport appointment. In this case, you will have to repeat the process from the beginning to set up a new reservation.
