The company takes great pride in its employees who are its greatest asset. Therefore, much emphasis is placed on training and employee development.
In line with its goal of being a learning organization, the company has continuously focused on training and developing its human resource. NTPC's vision of employee development has a broad perspective and is not limited to work-related inputs alone.
Training Infrastructure
The NTPC training policy provides for a minimum of seven man-days of training per employee per year. Our philosophy is to develop our own training systems and offer training internally to the extent possible. Therefore, NTPC has developed its own training infrastructure, comprising -
• Power Management Institute- The NTPC apex training institute located at NOIDA, near the company headquarters, which houses a world-class training infrastructure. It has two residential hostels with broadband facilities in each room. PMI has several training and conference rooms equipped with the latest audio-visual training tools. The PMI auditorium has a capacity of 300 people and hosts many national and international conferences.
PMI comes equipped with a badminton indoor court, swimming pool, tennis court and gym for use by participants. The Institute has a dedicated faculty and organizes training and conferences for NTPC and other companies as well.
• Employee Development Centers - Employee Development Centers (EDCs) are located on all NTPC projects and stations and address the training needs of the unit's employees. They have a similar infrastructure to the PMI and have a dedicated staff of 150 employees at NTPC. EDC serve to meet training needs that can be met locally.
• Simulator Centers - NTPC is the proud owner of three simulator training centers, for subcritical and supercritical coal-based plants, which are among the best in the country. Our subcritical simulators are in Korba (Chattisgarh) and Super Critical Simulators are in PMI, Noida and Sipat (Chattisgarh). In addition, subcritical simulators are being installed in Solapur (Maharastra). These simulator centers are designed to provide operating experience of a power plant to our engineers. NTPC also extends this facility to many other energy industry organizations or equipment manufacturers who send their employees for training in our simulator centers.
• On-line training facility: PMI has leveraged IT-driven platforms such as e-Learning, video conferencing and web conferencing to provide training at their employees' desks. With the acquisition of the latest version of web conferencing software, faculties can take classes in their own workplace anywhere in the world.
