Highlights of Queen's Proclamation of 1858
*The British Prime Minister Lord Palmerston presented the Act of 1858 in British Parliament.
*Lord Canning read out the Queen’s Proclamation of 1858 at Allahabad on 1st November 1858.
*It is also known as ‘The Magna Carta of the people of India”.
*Highlights of Queen’s Proclamation of 1858:
*East India company was abolished.
*Redesignation of Governor General of India as Viceroy
*Secretary of State for India was responsible for administration.
*The policy of imperial expansion will be abandoned.
*An Indian Civil Service will be created under the control of the Secretary of State.
*The crown was empowered to appoint a Governor-General and the Governors of the Presidencies.
