The remote monitoring and control system of lampposts has been applied to street lamps. In general, this scope monitoring and control system only reaches the streetlight transformer station. In this work, an experimental system of wireless sensor network was developed to study the feasibility of the system of monitoring and control of street lamps. This system consists of the sensor node, the remote terminal unit and the control center. The sensor node was installed on each pole of the lamp and was used to detect and control the lamp. The remote terminal unit serves as a relay station between the control center and the sensor nodes. The control center monitors and controls all lighthouses in real time. The hardware of the sensor node and the remote terminal unit was design. The software was developed for the sensor node, the remote terminal unit and the control center. The multi-hop used in the nodes. The test results show that the system can be used for street lamp control. The application of the lamp system can extend the control range to each lamp, reduce the electricity of the lamp and the cost of maintenance, and increase the availability of lampposts.
A well-designed street lighting system should allow users to travel at night with good visibility, safety and comfort while reducing many malfunctions occurring at night and improving the appearance of the neighborhood. By contrast, poorly designed lighting systems can lead to poor visibility that may not be useful to any pedestrian and are passing through that street. Very often, street lighting is poorly designed and inadequately maintained (for example, there are a large number of burnt out lamps) and uses obsolete lighting technology, consuming large amounts of energy and financial resources. Providing street lighting is one of the most important and costly responsibilities of a city. Street lighting is a particularly important concern for public authorities in developing countries because of its strategic importance for economic and social stability. Our proposed plan for the street light monitoring and control system can provide street lighting maintenance. This maintenance can also allow municipalities to expand street lighting to additional areas, increasing street light access for all streets and also other unattended areas. In addition, improvements in lighting quality and service expansion can improve safety conditions for both vehicle traffic and pedestrians.
