Septic tanks and separation distances from field to water wells, etc.
However, stricter distances and distances between different components of the wastewater treatment system and buildings, property boundaries, lakes, streams, wells, etc. are required, as detailed in the following table. Please contact us with corrections or additions to this data.
Common guidelines require at least 50 'distance between a well and a septic tank or 150' between a well AND a septic drainage field or leach bed, but you will see that different authorities can recommend different distances.
Local soil and rock conditions can make these "empirical rules" unreliable. See "One and Two Family Housing Code, Section P-2510-Combined Separation Pits and Disposal Fields," and Table P-2504, "Location of Wastewater Disposal System."

The interference between the septic tank and the open well depends on several factors such as soil type, porosity, permeability and distance between these structures. If it is a sandy soil, the minimum distance should be 50 feet (This applies to Kerala only because the density of houses and open pits are very high.Therefore, pollution is very important.In clayey soils, In the lateritic area, the distance should be above 20 to 30 fts., If we place the tubes of the casing adequately up to the hard rock and seated, the size of the grain is much smaller and the possibility of contamination is also smaller. Any rule can not regulate these types of problems.
