Microprocessor based synchronizer
a microprocessor based semi-automatic synchronizer for power systems is described in this paper. It does not require the conventional meters normally required for synchronizing.information regarding the status of the incoming generator is displayed by the system so that the operator can change machine speed and/or excitation. The required software has been implemented for a 8085A CPU based microprocessor. Here the error in the measurement of frequency can be made as low as 0.392%. Conventional systems like automatic turbine run-up system (ATRS) are much complex and as a result this synchroniser may find significant application in the relevant field. This apparatus is reliable and low cost and to be most suitable for captive power plants. Also it has been tested successfully in the laboratory with a three phase 220 V, 2.7 kVA alternator and the AC supply bus.
