THEORY:-

The stepper motor is a device used to obtain precise control of the position of the rotary shafts. A stepping motor uses the rotation of its axis in terms of steps, instead of a continuous rotation as in the case of an alternating current motor or continuous. To rotate the motor shaft step by step, a sequence of pulses is required to be applied to the motor windings step by step, in proper sequence. The numbers of pulses required for complete rotation of the motor shaft are the same as the number of internal teeth in its rotor. The stator teeth and rotor teeth are locked together to secure a shaft position. With a pulse applied to the input of the winding, the rotor rotates by a position of the teeth or an angle x. the angle x can be calculated as.
x = 3600 / no. of the rotor teeth
After rotation of the shaft by angle x, the rotor is locked with the next tooth in the sequence on the inner surface of the stator. The typical scheme of a typical stepper motor with four windings is as shown below.

Stepper motors are designed to work with digital circuits. Binary level 0-5V pulses are required at their winding inputs to obtain rotation of the shafts. The sequence of the pulses can be decided, depending on the required movement of the shaft. By means of a suitable sequence of pulses, the motor can be used in three modes of operation.

• One phase ON (average torque)
• Two phases ON (high torque)
• Too much (under par)

WORKING:-

8255 is interconnected with 8086 on the mapped I / O. the C port (PC0, PC1, PC2, PC3) is used to give pulse sequence to the stepper motor. The 8255 provides a much lower current that will not be able to drive the motor coils step by step so that each winding of a stepper motor needs to be connected using high speed Darlington transistors with a maximum rating of 1A, 80V with heat sink with output port 8255. Pull out the sequence in the correct order to have the desired direction to rotate the motor.
