A hydraulic excavator (excavator) is a large vehicle that is designed for excavation and demolition purposes. Hydraulic excavators consist of a chassis, an arm and a bucket, and move through tracks or wheels. They vary in size and function, an example of what is similar, but smaller "mini excavator". All versions are generally designed for the same purposes. The hydraulic excavators weigh between 3,000 and 2 million pounds and its speed varies between 19 HP and 4,500 HP. Hydraulic excavators depend entirely on hydraulic systems. The base / landing gear of the hydraulic excavator consists of a track or platform of wheels and provides transport for the vehicle while holding the chassis. The chassis allows the driver to control the hydraulic excavator using levers to drive the vehicle, raising the arm up and down and controlling the bucket. Because the chassis is built at the top of the landing gear, it is able to rotate 360 degrees. The arm and spoon attach to the chassis, work together to move the materials, but are independently controlled.
The hydraulic excavator is most commonly used to excavate rocks and soils, but with its many accessories it can also be used to cut steel, break concrete, drill holes in the ground, place gravel on the road before paving, and concrete, and even mowing landscapes. Hydraulic excavators have an operating weight of 20,000 pounds (9,072 kg) or more.
