Micro-milling can be an accompanying process to the production of turning machining. This article examines some of the technologies that go into a micro-milling machine and why they are important for a successful operation.
The micro mechanical machining of Stavax stainless steel (modified AISI 420) which is commonly used in the plastic injection molding industry due to its high corrosion resistance, machinability and wear resistance. The influence of process input parameters such as shear rate, shear depth, tooth feed, radial immersion percentage and immersion method in the process outputs during the Circular bagging operation. Tool wear, machining forces, and surface roughness measurements are considered to identify the relationships between the process inputs and outputs. It is observed that the immersion method has a significant influence on the wear of the tool which in turn affects the micro grinding forces and the quality of the surface. It demonstrates the positive impact of micro milling with a pre-drilled hole. It is shown that the relationship between radial immersion and tooth feed is important in terms of tool wear and surface roughness.
