Casting is the process

Casting is the process of producing metal parts by pouring the molten metal into the mold cavity of the required shape and allowing the metal to solidify. The piece of solidified metal is called "casting". The study of moving fluids where pressure forces are not considered is called fluid kinematics.

Sand casting is simply melting the metal and pouring into a preformed cavity, called a mold, which allows the metal to solidify and then break the mold to remove the cast. Sand casting uses expandable molds. So for each casting operation you have to form a new mold.
