A civilization (United Kingdom and United States) or civilization (British English variant) is any complex society characterized by urban development, social stratification, the form of symbolic communication (typically, writing systems) and a perceived separation and domination over The natural environment and social domination by the cultural elite.

Civilizations are intimately associated with other sociopolitical-economic characteristics, including centralization, the domestication of human beings and other organisms, the specialization of labor, culturally rooted ideologies of progress and supremacism, monumental architecture, taxation, dependence Social development and expansion. Historically, a civilization was a so-called "advanced" culture in contrast to more supposedly primitive cultures. In this broad sense, a civilization contrasts with non-centralized tribal societies, including cultures of nomadic pastoralists, neolithic egalitarian subsistence horticultural societies, or hunter-gatherers. As an uncountable noun, civilization also refers to the process of a society that develops into a centralized, urbanized stratified structure. Civilizations are organized in densely populated settlements divided into hierarchical social classes with a ruling elite and urban and rural subordinate populations engaged in intensive agriculture, mining, small-scale manufacturing, and commerce. Civilization concentrates power, extending human control over the rest of nature, even over other human beings.

The earliest emergence of civilizations is generally associated with the final stages of the Neolithic Revolution, culminating in the relatively rapid process of urban revolution and state formation, a political development associated with the emergence of a ruling elite. Previous Neolithic technology and lifestyle were first established in the Middle East (eg Göbekli Tepe, about 9,130 BCE), and later in the Yellow River and Yangtze basins in China (eg the Pengtoushan culture of 7,500 ECB) and later smeared. Similar pre-civilized "Neolithic revolutions" also began independently of 7,000 BCE in places like north-west of South America (the North Chico civilization) and Mesoamerica. These were some of the six civilizations around the world that emerged independently. Mesopotamia is the site of the first developments of the Neolithic Revolution from about 10,000 BC. C., with civilizations in development since 6,500 years ago. It has been identified that this area has "inspired some of the most important events in human history, including the invention of the wheel, cursive development, mathematics, astronomy and agriculture."

The urban civilized revolution, in turn, depended on the development of sedentarism, the domestication of grains and animals, and the development of lifestyles that facilitated economies of scale and the accumulation of surplus production by certain social sectors. The transition from complex cultures to civilizations, though still disputed, seems to be associated with the development of state structures, where power was monopolized by an elite ruling class practicing human sacrifice. Towards the end of the Neolithic period, several elitist Chalcolithic civilizations began to rise in several "cribs" of around 3300 BCE. The Chalcolithic civilizations, as defined above, also developed in the pre-Columbian Americas and, despite an early start in Egypt, Axum and Kush, much later in sub-Saharan Africa of the Iron Age. The collapse of the Bronze Age was followed by the Iron Age around 1200 BC, during which several new civilizations emerged, culminating in a period from the 8th to the 3rd century AD, which the German psychiatrist and philosopher Karl Jaspers called the Age Axial. It was a phase of critical transition leading to classical civilization. An important technological and cultural transition to modernity began around 1500 AD in Western Europe, and from this beginning the new approaches to science and law spread rapidly around the world, incorporating the cultures before the present industrial and technological civilization .

The anthropologist Layla Abdel Rahim defines civilization as the material manifestation of "the sum of domestic relations with all material and symbolic that emanates from the work and consumption of those classified as resources and the (necessarily) unequal value for that work, victim And life.
