A water level is a device that is used to equate elevations of places that are too far away to reach a bubble level. The simplest water level is a transparent tube section, partially filled with water. Water is easily purchased for use, and discarded easily after use. The ends are held vertical, and the rest of the tube is on the floor or on the floor. The water level at each end of the tube will be at the same elevation, whether the two ends are adjacent or separate. Water levels have been used for many years. The water level is lower than the laser level, but can be more accurate over long distances. To avoid errors, all water must be at the same temperature. Other sources of error include difficulty reading through the meniscus.
