RFID Based Library Management System
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a new generation of Auto
Identification and Data collection technology which helps to automate business processes and allows identification of large number of tagged objects like books, using radio waves. The proposed system allows
fast transaction flow for the library and also it can improve the traceability and security. UHF RFID readers are used. The antennas are kept at the gate and transaction sections. The library cards contains the RFID-transponders which stores the information about the book. It can be read / written electronically.
RFID in Library
The desired features in the Library using RFID technology are:
-To remove manual book keeping of records
-Traceability of books and library members as they move
-Less time for RFID-tag reading.
-To provide 2 meters read range antennas
Technical Specification
In the project a Workabout Pro UHF RFID handheld reader was used. Mercury4 RFID reader was also used for the transfer of data to a remote computer over a network connection. The antennas used were manufactured by Tyco electronics .
-The Library Member Tag ; It contained a contains a 16 digit value
-The book tag : it indicated the book number.
RFID Integration Modules
Transaction Module, Monitoring Module and Searching Module were used for integrating RFID with the library
-Transaction Module
transaction forms like issue, reissue, return and fine status forms contained this
-Monitoring Module
It is installed at the gates of the library to monitor the incoming/outgoing bags continuously.
-Searching Module
Once the resource is identified from the library, Using RFID tags to track the book is made possible by this .
