A knowledge base is a special kind of database for knowledge management, providing the means for the computerized collection, organization, and retrieval of knowledge.

Types:
Machine-readable knowledge bases:They store knowledge in a computer-readable form
-Human-readable knowledge bases:
They allow people to retrieve and use the knowledge they contain.

A knowledge based database system for engineering correlations :
A knowledge based database system (KBDS) has been constructed which assists in the simple formulation of a jet impingement application based on which it retrieves and evaluates the relevant correlation from a database.the system uses knowledge of the application domain when information in the database does not satisfy this specification to either select suitable correlations for extrapolation or to modify the database query to select alternative information.
