Tumkur Co-op Milk Union is certified as ISO 22000: 2005 by DNV Business Assurance of the Food Safety System Certificate. The Union was established under the World Bank project in 1975 and registered under the cooperation law on March 30, 1977 which covers the entire Tumkur district as its area of operation.
Dairy development activities began in 1976 by the Karnataka Dairy Development Corporation (KDDC) in order to support the Bangalore market's marketing activities. Therefore, a refrigerator of 30,000 liters capacity was established. Subsequently, during 1981, this has become 60 TLPD food plant.
The processing capacity of dairy products was increased to 1 lakh liters during 2005 in the Perspective I plan phase. Due to the rapid increase in milk acquisition, again the dairy processing capacity increases to 3.25 lakh Liters per day. The new block of packaging with greater capacity of processing was inaugurated 16-09-2013. The new block of flexi milk packaging was inaugurated on 10-10-2016.
Apart from this Union has 4 refrigeration centers in Sira (20 TLPD), Yediyur (60 TLPD), KB Cross (60 TLPD) and Madhugiri (60 TLPD). In addition to this, Union has 78 bulk milk refrigerators and 585 automatic milk collection centers.
