The simulation results of the Distributed Power Flow Controller model designed in MATLAB / SIMULINK. A simple system of two buses is considered for simulation. The power flow between the two buses is obtained by providing a phase difference between the buses. DPFC consists of a bypass converter and six single-phase converters in the series. The bypass converter is a single-phase converter connected between the neutral point of the transformer Δ-Y and the earth, and is supplied by a constant DC source. The simulation is carried out to observe the steady-state behavior and also the step change response of the device.
Modern power systems are designed to operate efficiently to supply power on demand to multiple load centers with high reliability. The flow of energy in AC systems is different from other flow problems, such as in transportation or telecommunications. However, electricity must follow the laws of physics, so the flow of energy is not routable and can not be controlled directly. Power flow control is also different from other types of flow problems, since electricity must also be produced exactly when needed. In a traditional energy system, electricity is generated by centralized power plants and flows to customers through the transmission and distribution network. A large majority of power transmission lines are AC lines that operate at different voltages.
It can be understood in the following video:
