The Kerala State Lottery is a lottery program run by the Government of Kerala. Founded in 1967 under the Lottery Department of the Government of Kerala, it is the first of its kind in India. All private lottery was banned in 1967 and the Kerala Government introduced the Kerala State Lottery. The idea behind setting up a new department was from the then finance minister PK Kunju Sahib of the state. The purpose of launching the program was to supplement government finance without providing hassle to the people and the public. Department soon became a model for other states of India Soon many other states started their lottery and jumped into the bandwagon.
