The Gandhian Integrated Forum Trust held a ‘Kavithai Mandram’ to commemorate Kasturba Gandhi’s birthday and International Women’s Day, here on on Sunday.

“The poetry writing and recitation contest is held on the second Sunday of every month to mark any important event falling during that period,” said P Maruthi, managing trustee and convener of the Tamil Kavithai Mandram. “The topics for the poems are given before hand,” he added.

The contest is open to two categories – below 12 years of age and above 12 years. On Sunday, children below 12 years recited their poems on the topic Annai and the senior participants on the topic Sindhikka Oru Nodi.

The Forum published two books, a collection of the best poems as well as the contribution of regular participants, on January 31.
