The Health and Welfare College, Kintampo (former Kintampo Rural Health Training School) was fully established in 1969 by the Ministry of Health of Ghana. It is mandated to become quality multi-purpose health personnel for the provision of quality health care throughout Ghana. So far, the College is the only one of its kind in the country. The motto is "Educating for the Service" with a guiding principle of the production of human resources able to provide health services that is:
* Simple to operate
* Far-reaching
* Economic cost and yet
* Efficient in quality.
Since its creation, the College has lived through this principle and ended up with hundreds of Medical Assistants, Technical Community Oral Health Officers, Field Technicians, Laboratory Technicians and Community Mental Health Officers and Records Management Officers. They have made great contributions to the reduction of disability and suffering, morbidity and mortality, particularly among the marginalized groups of the population in Ghana
