IPTV over WiMAX with MIPv6 Handovers
As the IPv4 unallocated address pool nears exhaustion, an increasing number of IPv6 deployments is expected in the near future. Also Mobile IPv6 has long been favored over Mobile IPv4. MIPv6 is required by the mobile IPv6 for network-level
mobility management. IPv6 and MIPv6 role and usage in WiMAX networks is reviewed in this article. IPTV streaming over WiMAX is also evaluated. From the study , it is concluded that WiMAX can provide a viable option as both access and backhauling technology.
INTRODUCTION
One of the most relevant multimedia applications in this
respect is video streaming, in particular TV over IP , also called IPTV and the video on demand (VOD). Moreover, high quality video reception is now possible using mobile handheld devices. IP mobility management
operations are implied by the multiaccess user
equipment capable of performing inter-technology handovers. transition to IPv6 and MIPv6 is essential because the unallocated IPv4 space is diminishing alarmingly.
IPV6 AND MIPV6 OVER WIMAX:
PHY and MAC layer features of IEEE 802.16 standards must be taken into consideration when Deploying IPv6 over WiMAX networks. WiMAX deployments with different MAC Convergence
Sublayer (CS) configurations. WiMAX networks are fully IP-based.the WiMAX Forum
reference network architecture provides a foundation that
enables service providers to deploy WiMAX networks.
EMPIRICAL EVALUATION:
IPTV streaming over WiMAX is tested using two different testbeds equipped with the hardware equipments sufficient for the IEEE standard.
