Internet radio
Internet radio is also variously known as web radio, net radio, streaming radio and e-radio is basically an audio service via the internet. webcasting is the name given to the broadcasting of music via the internet. At an estimated 967
hours per year per person, the use of radio is nearly 6 times as that of the newspaper. In the internet radio, a continuous stream of audio that cannot be paused or replayed is delivered to the customers in the form of streaming media. The providers of internet radio service is also associated with traditional radio station or radio network.
Internet radio technology
Streaming:The streaming is used for the voice distribution over the internet with the use of a lossy audio codec. The common formats used are MP3, Ogg Vorbis, Windows Media Audio, RealAudio etc. The data is continuously sent as TCP or UDP packets and are reassembled at the destination.
Simulation: This uses a tuner simulation program which can provide all the online radios that can be recieved in that particular city.
Types of broadcasters:
There are two kinds of Internet radio broadcasters: those who create programming solely for distribution over the Internet, and those who already distribute programming via traditional broadcast spectrum and are also delivering that content online. The latter has the advantage that they can take care of the competition by choosing the internet as an alternate medium for the transmission. .
