Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (abbreviated BSNL) is a telecommunications company owned by the Indian state based in New Delhi. It was incorporated on September 15, 2000 and assumed the business of providing telecommunications services and network management from the former Departments of the Central Government of Telecommunications Services (DTS) and Telecommunications Operations (DTO) since October 1, 2000 as operating company. It is the largest provider of fixed telephony and broadband services with more than 60% market share, and is the fifth largest provider of mobile telephony in India. However, in recent years, the company's revenues and market share have plummeted and caused large losses as a result of intense competition in the privatizing sector of telecommunications in India. BSNL is the oldest communication service provider in India and had a customer base of 93.29 million in June 2015. It has fingerprints throughout India, except in Mumbai and New Delhi, where telecommunications are managed by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam. (MTNL).
