DEFINITION: Injection moulding is a manufacturing process for producing parts from both thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic materials. Material is fed into a heated barrel, mixed, and forced into a mold cavity where it cools and hardens to the configuration of the mold cavity.
APPLICATIONS:

• bottle caps, Packaging

• toys,pocket combs,consumer products
• most other plastic products available today
DEFECTS IN INJECTION MOULDING
• WRAPING: Cooling is too short,incorrect water temperature
• VOIDS: lack of holding pressure
• BLISTER: tool or material is too hot
• BURN MARKS: lack of venting,injection speed too high
• FLASH: mould is over packed
• JETTING: poor tool design
ADVANTAGES:
• ideal for producing high volumes of the same object.
• high production rates
• repeatable high tolerances
• the ability to use a wide range of materials
• low labour cost
• minimal scrap losses
• little need to finish parts after molding
DISADVANTAGES:
• initial investment cost is high
• expensive equipment investment
• potentially high running costs
• need to design moldable parts.
