Simla Conference
*The Simla Conference was convened by Lord Wavell, the Viceroy of India.
*It was held from 25th June to 14th July 1945
*21 members, from all political parties participated in Simla Conference.
*The main aim of Simla Conference was to prepare a list of members to the. Viceroy’s executive council.
*Simla Conference did not succeed because the Muslim League rejected the proposal.
Cabinet Mission 1946
*In 1946 Clement Atlee, the British Prime Minister, sent a mission to India known as Cabinet Mission.
*It was to discuss and formulate a plan for the transfer of power to lndians from British.
*The main aim of the Cabinet Mission was to help the Indians to frame a constitution by themselves.
*Cabinet Mission was a three member mission.
*Lord Pethick Lawrence, Stafford Cripps and A.V. Alexander were the members of the Cabinet Mission. They were the members of the British Cabinet also.
*Pethick Lawrence was the chairman of the Cabinet Mission.
*Lord Wavell was the Viceroy during the period of Cabinet Mission.
*Cabinet Mission arrived in India on 24th March 1946.
*Cabinet Mission published its plan on 16thMay 1946.
*Cabinet Mission recommended the setting up of a Constituent Assembly to frame a constitution for India.
*Both the Congress and the Muslim League accepted the proposals in principle.
Interim Govenment
*Interim Government was formed in India on 2nd September 1946 on the recommendation of Cabinet Mission plan.
