Communal Award
*On 16th August 1932, Ramsay Mc Donald, the British Prime Minister, announced a scheme of representation of the minorities, which-came to be known as the Communal Award.
*It extended the system of separate electorates to the depressed classes.
*Gandhiji protested against the extension of communal representation to the Scheduled castes and undertook a fast unto death in Yervada Jail, Pune.
*To stop his fast unto deathman agreement known as Poona Pact was signed between Gandhiji and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
*By this agreement Hindu joint electorate-was-retained and some seats were reserved to the depressed classes.
Swaraj party
*Swaraj party was founded by"C.R. Das and Motilal Nehru, dissatisfied with the policies of Gandhiji.
*C.R. Das and Motilal Nehru resigned from Congress on 31 December 1922 and founded the new party on 1st January 1923.
*First President of Swaraj Party - C.R. Das
*First Secretary of Swaraj Party - Motilal Nehru
*The first session of Swaraj Party was held at Allahabad.
* Its early name was Congress Khilaphat Swaraj Party.
*The programme of Swarajist was called ‘Council Entry’.
*Swaraj party secured absolute majority in the election held in 1923.
August Offer 1940
*It was an offer made by the British to the Indians on 8th August 1940 to obtain the support of India in the Second World War.

*Dominion Status Would be given to India (after the war) A committee would be appointed to frame a constitution for India.
*Expansion of Governor - General’s council With more representation for Indians.
*Congress rejetted the offer and demanded immediate self government.
