MAKING OF CONSTITUTION
CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY
*The constitution of India was framed by the Constituent Assembly.
*The Constituent Assembly was set up on 6th December 1946, under the provisions of the Cabinet Mission Plan (1946)
*The first meeting of the Constituent Assembly was held on 9th December 1946.
*The meeting began at 11 am at the Central hall of present day Parliament building. It was attended by 207 members including 9 women.
*The first person who addressed the constituent assembly was Acharya J.B. Kripalani
*On the day of the first meeting, Dr. Sachidananda Sinha, the oldest member in the assembly was appointed as the temporary chairman of the Constituent Assembly.
*Permanent president of the Constituent Assembly was Dr. Rajendra Prasad He was elected on 11th December 1946.
*The vice president of the Constituent Assembly was Harendra Coomar Mukherjee.
*Constitutional Advisor to the Constituent Assembly was B.N. Rao.
*Total strength of the Constituent Assembly, fixed by the Cabinet Mission, was 389.
*Out of this 292 from Governors provinces of British India, 4 from Chief Commissioner’s Provinces and 93 from
Indian princely states.
*The Malayalee who represented United Provinces in the Constituent Assembly was

*The membership of the Constituent Assembly was reduced to 299 as the members from the Pakistan region left after partition.

*17 Malayalees including 3 women were the members of the Constituent Assembly. Out of these seventeen, 9 from Madras, 6 from Travancore arid 1 from Kochi.
*The other one malayalee member was hailed from the United Provinces (now U.P.).
