LOKPAL

*Lokpal is an anti-corruption authority constituted at the centre.
*It is modelled on the Ombudsman system in the Scandinavian countries.
*It has Jurisdiction of all members of Parliament and Govt employees in cases of corruption.
*The word ‘Lokpal’ was coined by 
Ans : Dr. L.M. Singvi (1963)
*The concept of Lokpal was suggested by 
Ans : Asokee Kumar Sen.
*Lokpal Bill was firstly introduced in the Loksabha by 
Ans : Shanti Bhooshan in 1968.
*Lokpal bill was introduced in the parliament for Eleven times
*Lokpal consists of 9 members including chairperson. Of these 50% of members are from Judicial Background.
*It is also provided that not less than 50% of the members of the Lokpal shall be from amongst the persons belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Minorities and Women.
*The members of Lokpal are selected by a committee consisting of
1.Prime Minister
2.Lok Sabha Speaker
3.Opposition leader of Loksabha
4.Chief Justice of Supreme Court or Sitting Judge of Supreme Court nominated by the Chief Justice of India
5.An eminent jurist nominated by the president of India.
6.One eminent jurist nominated by the President on the recommendation of the chairperson and members of the selection committee.
*Lokpal’s Jurisdiction will cover all categories of Public Servants.
