The Mint of the Government of India operates four currencies in the country for the production of currencies. They're in:
• Mumbai, Maharashtra
• Calcutta, West Bengal
• Hyderabad, Telangana
• Noida, Uttar Pradesh
Under the Coins Act of 1906, the Government of India is responsible for the production and supply of coins to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The RBI sets an annual bleed for this purpose and the Indian Government draws up the production schedule for the Government of India Mint based on bleeding.
In addition to coin minting, mints in Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad also make blanks. The mints of Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata have gold testing facilities and Mumbai mint produces weights and standardized measures. Mumbai Mint has a state-of-the-art gold refining plant up to 999.9. Hyderabad Mint has electrolytic silver refining facilities up to 999.9.
Commemorative coins are made in Mumbai and Kolkata. Kolkata and Hyderabad also have medallion facilities. Noida mint was the first in the country to mint stainless steel coins.
