Mumbai: Mumbai University has once again missed the 45-day deadline for announcing results of most major exams conducted in October, affecting thousands of students. While the TYBCom exam ended on October 21, the TYBSc exam concluded on October 25. Over one lakh students from affiliated colleges appeared for these exams. Public universities in the state have to announce results within 45 days of the last exam, according to the Maharashtra Universities Act, 1994.
The university conducts nearly 650 exams. A student from a college in South Mumbai, Latika Jain, said delayed results have become a habit with the university. "Since it is a mid-term exam, it will not delay admissions or job prospects. But many of us who are applying abroad for higher studies will have to send the scorecard to universities abroad for the provisional admission process," the student said.
A college principal said, "Many exams were scheduled after Diwali. But teachers completed assessment on time. The results should be hopefully out before next week. There were many changes in the examination house too, so we were hoping for better performance from university officials." But since the repeaters' exams are not scheduled immediately after the exam, students need not worry, the principal added.
The university had restructured the centralised computing facility (CCF) to ensure results are announced on time and marksheets are released soon after. The division of power within the examination house of the university, according to many, was the root cause of delay in issuing marksheets. It was decided that half the permanent staff members from the CCF will directly work in the examination house and will report to the controller's office. The decision came after results for several exams were delayed this year.
Deepak Wasave, in-charge controller of exam, said, "The results are almost ready and are under process. They will be released in a day or two." He added that there was not much delay this time and pending results will be announced from the coming week.
