The Hydraulic Press is one of the oldest machine tools. In its modern form, it is well suited to press jobs ranging from the sewing of jewelry to the forging of aircraft parts. Deep drawing hydraulic presses are widely used for the industrial metal sheet that is formed today. The small manufacturers of stretched parts and suppliers of the automotive industry especially appreciate these machines due to their high flexibility in the design of the process. As wide range in forms of manufactured products. In the present work of revision an effort is made to study the previous investigations that have been realized in the different techniques of structural analysis and optimization of the hydraulic press. The formation of metals is one of the manufacturing processes that is performed mainly in hydraulic press. Hydraulic press machine works under impact load condition. Due to the impact load continued some parts of the machine experience compression stress and some parts undergo tensile stress.

Hydraulic presses can exert many thousands of pounds of force, making them useful for industrial operations such as forming metal parts. The pressure in the hydraulic system of the press is typically measured in pounds per square inch, which is the force per unit area. To calculate the force produced, multiply the pressure by the area of the piston of the hydraulic cylinder in square centimeters. This will give you strength in pounds, which can easily convert into tons.
Step 1
Refer to the required data, such as psi and cylinder diameter or piston area. This information must be given in the specifications sheet of the hydraulic press.
Step 2
Calculate the piston area of the cylinder, if not provided in the specification sheet. Use the formula: The area equals 3.14 times the square of the diameter, divided by four.
For example, if the diameter of the piston is 4 inches, then multiply 3.14 times 4 inches times 4 inches, divided by 4. Therefore, the area is 12.56 square inches.
Step 3
Multiply the nominal pressure, in psi, by the area. In the example, if the press was offering 2500 psi, then you would multiply 2,500 by 12.56. This gives him 31,400 pounds.
Step 4
Divide the number of pounds per 2,000 to convert to tons. In the example, 31,400 divided by 2,000 gives you a force of 15.7 standard tons.
If you want to convert to metric tons, divide by 2.205. In the example, 31,400 divided by 2,205 gives you a force of 14.24 metric tons.
