Hybrid vehicles use two power sources to drive the wheels. In a hybrid hydraulic vehicle (HHV) a regular internal combustion engine and a hydraulic motor are used to drive the wheels. Hybrid hydraulic systems consist of two key components: high-pressure hydraulic fluid vessels called accumulators, and pump / hydraulic drive motors. Working Hydraulic Hybrid Systems: Accumulators are used to store pressurized fluid. Hydraulic hybrid vehicles, or HHVs, use a pressurized fluid power source, along with a conventional internal combustion engine (ICE), to achieve better fuel economy and reduction of harmful emissions. They capture and reuse 70% -80% of the vehicle's braking / deceleration energy compared to 25% for electric hybrids. [Citation needed] For trucks and buses, this can also be less expensive than electrical systems, due to the price of the batteries required for later. Hydraulic hybrid vehicle systems can also weigh less than electric systems because of the high weight of the batteries. This can lead to a lower impact on payload capacity, especially for heavy truck classes.
