The High frequency attenuation in shielded distribution cable has been extensively studied. But in the case of solid dielectric cable, this has not been done. A solid dielectric cable has a bit more complex structure including the semiconducting “bedding” layers and a moisture barrier.high frequency loss is created by these sources. The purpose of these bedding layers is to seal the cable against moisture ingress and also accomodate for the thermal expansion of the cable. The cables studied here are the ones with a corrugated copper sheath and also a metal tape moisture barrier and wire screen. The various sources of high frequency loss in these cable structures have been analytically approximated.
The phenomenon of high frequency loss in shielded power distribution and transmission cable has to be well understood to deploy it in the case of for distribution of wideband signals.
MEASURED HIGH FREQUENCY DIELECTRIC
PARAMETERS AND ATTENUATION
the dielectric properties of the bedding layers dominated the high frequency loss in the cables. the dielectric constant could not be measured as the conductivity of the transmission class cable semiconductive layers was sufficiently high.
