GSM BASED GRIET SERVICE ENGINE
Abstract
GSM BASED GRIET SERVICE ENGINE
The ubiquitous mobile phone and the widespread cellular network offer an excellent communication channel between the college and the parents of students who are located at diverse geographical locations. The SMS (Short Messaging Service) is an efficient and relatively inexpensive method of keeping the parents posted with up-to-date information about their ward’s attendance and marks updates as well as general notices.
The objective of the project is to design, develop, test and deploy an automated SMS based notification and query-response system. The system will automate the tasks of data retrieval from database, forming and transmitting SMS messages to the parents concerned. This process will be event based with events triggered by thresholds set for low attendance, conduct of exams etc. The package will considerably reduce the time and effort by college administrative staff in keeping parents informed about their ward’s performance.
The features of the system will be – event- based SMS transmission of student-specific data to parents, transmission of general data to all, automated response to formatted queries from parents, log of all notifications sent and queries received, password protected operation, user friendly screens for data entry
The main components of the system will be a PC based database server, a GSM modem. The physical communication page link between the two will be RS232 serial communication and interaction will be via the AT command set.
