Judicious distribution and energy consumption are important requirements for a sustainable life. The current system of energy billing has many drawbacks such as excessive use of labor, human errors and the inability of users to keep track of their energy consumption and increase the total cost of this procedure. To overcome the existing drawbacks, a new technique has been presented and tested to extract information about energy use from a remote location. This document suggests a GSM-based system for collecting, processing and notifying consumers about consumption. This system will be reliable, efficient and accurate to meet the needs of consumers. It will help minimize technical errors and reduce human dependence at the same time. Electromechanical energy meters are being replaced by digital energy meters because of their high reliability, accuracy and precision.
At the high cost of electricity these days it becomes necessary for the consumer to know how much electricity is consumed to control the electricity bill within their budget.
In this proposed system, the consumer will obtain their energy consumption data in real time on an LCD. The same data is sent via the GSM modem to the electricity department via SMS. An 8051 family microcontroller is connected to the power meter to get Watt Hour pulses.
The microcontroller then processes these pulses according to the program written on it, to calculate the units consumed and the cost involved. In addition, it gives the command to the GSM modem loaded SIM to send the data to the department of electricity via SMS.
