The global positioning system, generally called GPS, is used to communicate with satellites and with receivers in different parts of the world. This seminar aims to shed light on the technical details the advantages, the traps and the main areas of application of GPS systems.
Many of our decisions depend on the details of our immediate environment and require information about specific locations on the surface of the earth. In this sense, recent studies in information technologies have opened a vast potential in communication, the analysis of spatial and temporal data. Data representing the real world can be stored and processed so they can be represented later in a simplified way to meet specific needs. Such information is called geographic because it helps us distinguish one place from another and make decisions for a location that is appropriate for that location. Geographic information allows us to apply the general principles to the specific conditions of each location, allows us to track what is happening anywhere and helps us understand how one place differs from another. Spatial information is essential for effective planning and decision-making at the regional, national and global levels.
Geographic information in the form of maps, photos taken from aircraft and images collected from space platforms can be represented in digital form, this opens up a huge range of possibilities for communications, analysis modeling, precise decision making but a degree of approximation .
