A fairy tale (pronounced / feəriˌteɪl /) is a type of short story that has generally fantastic folk characters, such as dwarves, elves, fairies, Giants, gnomes, elves, mermaids, trolls, unicorns or witches, and generally the magic or enchantment. Fairy tales can be distinguished from other folk tales such as the legends (which usually involve belief in the veracity of the events described) [1] and explicitly moral tales, including the fables of the beast. The term is used mainly for stories with origins in the European tradition, and, at least in the last centuries, refers mainly to children's literature.

In less technical contexts, the term is also used to describe something blessed with unusual happiness, as in "fairytale ending" (happy ending) [2] or "fairy tale romance" (although not all fairy tales end up happy). Colloquially, a "fairy tale" or "fairy tale" can also mean any story drawn by the hair or great tale. It is used especially in history that not only is not true, but could not be true. The legends are perceived as real; fairy tales may merge into legends, where the story is perceived both by teller and listeners as being based on historical truth. However, unlike legends and epics, they contain generally no more than superficial references to religion and actual places, people and events; they take place when over time rather than in real time. Fairy tales are oral and literary form; the name of "fairy tale" was first attributed to them by Madam of Aulnoy at the end of the 17th century. Many fairy tales of today evolved from centenarians stories that have emerged, with variations, in many cultures around the world. [4] the history of the fairy tale is particularly difficult to draw because only the literary forms can survive. Yet, according to the researchers at the universities of Durham and Lisbon, these stories can date back to thousands of years, some at the age of the bronze more than 6000 years ago. [5] today fairy tales, and works derived from fairy tales, are still written.

Folklorists have classified fairy tales in various ways. The Aarne-Thompson classification system and morphological analysis of Vladimir Propp are among the most remarkable. Other folklorists have interpreted the meaning of stories, but no school has been definitively established for the meaning of the tales.
