After months of rumors about its acquisition by Snapdeal online marketplace, the logistics player GoJavas has found a better deal for himself. Pigeon Express, based in Bengaluru, has acquired Gojavas based in Gurgaon, Business World reported. The report stated that "most of GoJavas' employees have been asked to leave and the company will close all operations in a timely manner." YourStory has confirmed the news with sources close to development. However, the financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed. It was also reported that Trackon Couriers, based in Delhi, had been in talks with GoJavas earlier.
Gojavas in their nest, Pigeon - which is a provider of traditional messaging services - will have the advantage of being able to serve e-commerce logistics. Currently, Snapdeal has about 40 percent stake in GoJavas, which had announced that it will not sell. By maintaining that participation, there is an obvious advantage to Snapdeal: equity in Pigeon Express.
Javas (now GoJavas) began as the logistics arm of the Jabong B2C Xerion Retail entity, but was later transferred to Quickdel in 2013. Snapdeal had invested $ 20 million in GoJavas last year to compete against Flipkart, which has its Own logistics arm, Ekart, Amazon Private Limited Transportation Services. Snapdeal has also launched its own logistics arm, Vulcan Express.
In fact, industry observers had speculated that the GoJavas would merge with Vulcan. But a recent PwC research that Rocket Internet had commissioned - called Project Flush - focused on how GoJavas was created and changed the course of these discussions.
