GOING GREEN WITH BLUE BLUETEC Diesel Technology
Major problem faced by today’s world is environmental pollution.
Of these vehicular traffic is a major contributor.
Exhaust gases from vehicles include CO,CO ,HC,NOx…...
Of these NOx is particularly very harmful.
These are one of the chief constituents of smog, which have an adverse effect on ecological systems.
They also contribute to the formation of acid rain.
Nox also cause breathing illness to humans.
The factors that cause that cause diesel engines to run more efficiently than gasoline engines also cause them to run at higher temperature.
This leads to the creation of nitrogen oxides(Nox).
Fuel in any engine is burned with extra air and some of the oxygen is used to burn the fuel .
When the peak temperatures are high enough for long periods of time, the nitrogen and oxygen in the air combines to form Nitrogen oxides.
These are normally collectively referred as “Nox”.
In order to reduce NOx, a engine should run at low temperature than the normal temperature.
Reduced cylinder temperature will achieved in three ways
Enriching the air fuel ratio
Lowering the compression ratios and retarding ignition timings.
Reducing the amount of oxygen in the cylinder.
The BlueTEC exhaust treatment system was designed for the reduction of nitrogen oxides and diesel particulate matter that are by-products of an efficient diesel engine process. .
BlueTEC is based on a combination of engine-design measures that lower particulate emissions, coupled with a further reduction of nitrogen oxides downstream of the engine.
The display includes an oxidizing catalytic converter connected directly to a nitrogen oxide (N0x) storage catalyst. Exhaust piping then connects the diesel particulate filter to the selective catalytic converter (SCR).

They minimize fuel consumption while maximizing torque and driving enjoyment.
In addition , they are extremely robust.
It has the potential to fulfill even the most stringent of emission requirements world wide.
It also ensures low fuel consumption in real terms, helping customers to make tangible fuel savings and therefore, reducing the economy’s dependence on oil imports.
Requires low sulfur diesel (ULSD) Less then 15 ppm.
The SCR-technology costs are negatively influenced by the AdBlue tank and dosing system.
The SCR-technology requires replenishment of AdBlue at regular intervals.
The low freezing point of urea needs adequate measures for winter functioning.
NOx storage exhaust-gas aftertreatment processes, will also lead to increased HC emissions.
BLUETEC has the cleanest diesel emissions.
BLUETEC enabled Mercedes Benz E 320 to meet EURO VI norms already.
Customers would benefit from better fuel mileage.
It is predicted that the diesel sales will quadruple in the next decade and hence an ultimate solution for NOx emissions
20 to 40% better mileage then gasoline
