From ocean bed to rock bed, from foundations on soft soils to land slide control, from waste disposal site to water reservoir, geosynthetics have an important place for themselves in the engineering and construction projects. In words of Prof. ROBERT M. KOERNER (1986) an exciting new concept in engineered materials has emerged for the civil engineering community-and the rapidity at which the related products are being developed and used is nothing short of amazing. The geosynthetics have risen from a relatively minor and specialty product status to a world wide billion dollar industry. · Textile materials first used in road construction in South Carolina in 1930. · Geo textiles first appeared in 1970, which are of permeable fabrics. ? We can increase the bearing capacity of weak soil by using geo textiles. ? We can control fluid migration. ? We can separate different layers of soil successfully. ? We can also use underneath the various foundation in weak soils.
