Gas Insulated Transmission Lines (GIL) are the safe and flexible alternative to overhead lines and occupy much less space while providing the same power transmission. Because they hardly affect the landscape, and their minimal electromagnetic radiation means they can also be used nearby, or even inside buildings, GIL can be considered for a wide range of applications. They are suitable for providing continuation of underground overhead lines, connecting power plants to the mains, or as a way to save space to connect the main industrial plants to the public grid.


Gas Insulated Transmission Lines (GIL) are a further development of the tubular conductor intended for long distances and are especially suitable for connecting conurbations to power supply centers. They are also as "invisible" as ordinary power cables, as well as having a number of other advantages. The world's first gas-insulated power transmission line successfully completed its field trials with a resistance test in early 1999.
