Abstraction :-

we propose a bandwidth-efficient multicast mechanism for heterogeneous wireless networks. We reduce the bandwidth cost of an Internet protocol (IP) multicast tree by adaptively selecting the cell and the wireless technology for each mobile host to join the multicast group. Our mechanism enables more mobile hosts to cluster together and leads to the use of fewer cells to save the scarce wireless bandwidth. Besides, the paths in the multicast tree connecting to the selected cells share more common links to save the wireline bandwidth. Our mechanism supports the dynamic group membership and offers mobility of group members. Moreover, our mechanism requires no modification to the current IP multicast routing protocols. We formulate the selection of the cell and the wireless technology for each mobile host in the heterogeneous wireless networks as an optimization problem. We use integer linear programming to model the problem and show that the problem is NP-hard. To solve the problem, we propose a distributed algorithm based on Lagrangean relaxation and a network protocol based on the algorithm

APPLICATION:
• Multimedia applications involving the transmission of video over communication networks are rapidly increasing in popularity. Such applications can greatly benefit from adapting video coding parameters to network conditions as well as adapting network parameters to better support the application requirements.
• We highlight recent advances in optimal resource allocation for real-time video communications over unreliable and resource constrained communication channels.
• we focus on point-to-point coding and delivery schemes in which the sequences are encoded on the fly. We present a high-level framework for resource-distortion optimization.
• The framework can be used for jointly considering factors across network layers, including source coding, channel resource allocation, and error concealment. For example, resources can take the form of transmission energy in a wireless channel, and transmission cost in a DiffServ-based Internet channel.
• This framework can be used to optimally trade off resource consumption with end-to-end video quality in packet-based video transmission.
• we recent work in two areas-energy efficient wireless video transmission and resource allocation for Internet-based applications.

FUTURE SCOPE:
1.An energy-efficient framework for active transmission in OFDMA-based long-range wireless.
This frame-work is based on using energy-aware metrics for resource allocation and page link adaptation. By casting the optimal energy -efficient resource allocation problem as utility-based optimization problem, low-complexity utility-based resource allocation schemes developed here can be applied to reduce the complexity of resource allocation decisions.
2.The ambient networks concept targets forthcoming dynamic communication environments, characterized by the presence of a multitude of different wireless devices, radio access technologies, network operators and business actors, which can form instant inter-network agreements with each other.
3. Multi-radio resource management (MRRM) mechanisms, coordinating several radio accesses, fulfill a key role for providing wireless services with improved resource efficiency, coverage and service quality.
